The season seems to be flying by, I cannot believe it is March already! The Gap Course enters its final 2 weeks with the Level 2 course just started. The snow is holding up well, despite some tricky weather conditions recently with more snow forecast for early this week.

ICE Gap Course 2009.
The ultimate Gap Course goes from strength to strength, with 50 students on this year's course, making the ICE course the most popular BASI Gap Course in the world. ICE is the only Gap Provider to use BASI Trainers exclusively for all training and assessing on all courses. This means you receive the highest level of training from the people who will be assessing you at the end of the course. |

100% pass rate on January Level 1 & February Level 2 Course
 Simon McCombe trained and assessed the January Level 1 course which saw a 100% pass rate. Congratualtions to all of those who passed. |
 Meanwhile the February Level 2 course saw similar levels of success with a matched 100% pass rate under the training of Rupert Tildesley. Both Simon and Rupert will be training on next years 2009 Gap course, where candidates receive the highest levels of training. |

Testing times
Ski and Board magazine's technical editor and ICE Trainer Mark Jones heads up a team of experts to test the ski equipment to be released by manufacturers into the shops for 2009. Mark subsequently writes the articles about the results of the tests for publication in Ski and Board during the autumn.
This gives Mark and the team a unique insight into next year's gear, which is then translated into the personal one to one service that ICE offer as part of the focus on equipment at the beginning of the Gap Course. All students who need equipment are personally fitted with boots and can test skis for up to a week for free in our test centre in Killy Sport, Val d'Isère.
Also on the team for this year's test is the ICE specialist freeride clinic coach Olivier Renassia, who will no doubt be interested to find out what Salomon's reverse rocker freeride skis are like..... More to come on that one soon!

Rattle and Hum - World Cup Action in Val d'Isère.
Bode Miller claimed a sensational victory on the Face de Bellevarde Olympic downhill course at the beginning of February. Miller lead the field by nearly 1.5 seconds following an astonishing downhill run and put in a steady slalom performance to claim the victory and the crystal globe for overall victory in the combined event for 2008.  World Championships comes to Val d'Isere
The World Alpine Skiing Championships are organized over a two-week period, every alternative year in a ski resort or alpine venue. Contrary to the World Cup circuit which includes several races and ranks skiers according to their overall results of the whole season, the World Championships awards its titles based on the results of one slalom, giant slalom, super G, super combined or downhill race.
Val d'Isère, the skiing capital
After organizing over 150 World Cup races and 4 Olympic Games events in 1992, Val d'Isère is to host the FIS World Alpine Ski Championships in 2009 thus becoming a member of the elite club open only to resorts having organized the "Grand Slam" (Chamonix, St Moritz, Garmish).
Furthermore the World Championships will be staged during the ICE Gap Course of 2009 - another good reason to come to Val for the winter next year! |
