Skiing in mid summer, particularly in Europe is not at the top of most peoples wish list. However, having just done a two week stint in Hintertux, Austria for BASI I can totally recommend it! The break at the weekend was also great fun, with myself and Alex Leaf having a few scary moments while climbing in Mayhofren. The climax being getting to the top of a cliff, greeted by a mad bar owner, who dished out a couple of free schnapps!
Conditions on the glacier have been exceptionally good, with great cover and good skiing on 'real' snow rather than directly on hard, blue glacier ice. I had an awesome group, mainly younger guys and girls who were looking to get their qualification sorted before applying to work for next winter, the standard was very high, particularly in the teaching sessions where everyone passed. Congratulations must go to Izzie Cowper, who was on a re-sit due to being injured at the end of last seasons ICE course, Izzie was skiing like a legend at the end of the course and passed with flying colours.
