BASI Instructor pathway

BASI Level 3 training

Below is the Technical Assessment Criteria for the BASI Alpine Level 3. You need to be able to perform at the level in the areas listed below and should centre your training around this. Training you receive from ICE on a Performance and Preparation course, will focus on these areas and will look at these outcomes relative to your performance to ensure you get the most from the course.

Performance and Preparation courses are taught exclusively by BASI Trainers who work with the Assessment Criteria all the time so are fully of where the level lies and is in a position to offer advice as to where your level is. Please consult your trainer at any stage during a course for an appraisal on your level next to the criteria.



BASI Alpine Level 3 Technical Assessment Criteria
Central Theme
  • Perform all phases of CT on terrain appropriate to client needs.

  • Piste Long
  • Perform cleanly carved (unless the task is otherwise) turns on a red piste.
  • Influence the radius of the arc whilst still carving.
  • Use effective posture and balance.



Piste Short
  • Perform grippy (from the fall line) symmetrical, short turns, on a red piste.
  • Ski in a variety of corridor widths.
  • Use effective posture and balance.

Variable
  • Perform rounded, linked turns in a variety of conditions on a steep red or black steepness slope.
  • Show turns of various radii.
  • Show a high degree of ski performance.
  • Use effective posture and balance,

Steep
  • Perform a rounded, linked turns on black steepness slope.
  • Show turns of various radii.
  • Show a high degree of ski performance.
  • Use effective posture and balance.

Bumps
  • Ski a fall line descent, at or above the minimum speed on a red steepness slope.
  • Perform a variety of lines and tactical approaches.
  • Use effective posture and balance.
